Merano

Merano is the second – largest city in South Tyrol and the “wellness city” of this region “par excellence”. Merano has been famous since the XVI century for its mild climate; even Emperor Charles V loved staying here! The Merano thermal baths were famous at the end of the XIX century already, when the European upper classes met here to experiment the benefits of its thermal waters; some Merano important guests were Empress Sissi, Ezra Pound, Frank Kafka and Paul Lazarsfeld. After decades of oblivion, the Merano thermal tradition was discovered again, thanks to the rising demand of “me-time” occurred in the last 15 years. The result was the very successful re-opening of the Merano thermal baths in 2005!
