Holidays in the mountains

The famous “Parco Naturale del Gruppo del Tessa” natural park lies in the city immediate surroundings, where it’s possible to choose among many kinds of hiking trips, from the easiest ones, the “Waalwege”, till the most challenging ones, like the “Alta Via di Merano”. The ideal trekking itinerary for guests wishing a bit of adrenaline! You can spend your holidays in the mountains Merano in winter as well, skiing in the “Merano 2000” skizone!
Merano and its surroundings
Merano and its surroundings offer much to the fans of holidays in the mountains! An example is the traditional “Tappeinerweg” (“Tappeiner Path”), which starts in Lagundo and ends in Merano downtown. This easy trekking itinerary is 4 km long and was conceived by Mr. Tappeiner, a physician from Val Venosta. He had the hobby of botany; this is the reason why he wanted to exhibit every plant growing in Merano and surroundings along this path. Another hiking trip in Merano and its surroundings is the “Sissiweg”, the “Sissi Path”, leaving from Trauttmannsdorff Castle and ending by the Passirio River. This itinerary is suitable for culture fans, if they wish to know more about Empress Sissi, who also spend her holidays in the mountains in Merano!
